More than 90 pounds of crystal meth found in major drug bust centered in St. Matthews
WITH NEW DETAILS. MARK. YEAH. VICKY. RICK. POLICE SAY RAIDS WERE CARRIED OUT THURSDAY AT FIVE LOCATIONS ALL ACROSS LOUISVILLE. WE’RE TOLD THIS WAS THE RESULT OF A THREE MONTH LONG INVESTIGATION THAT STARTED WITH A TIP FROM THE PUBLIC. YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE 90 POUNDS OF METHAMPHETAMINE. HOW MANY LIVES DID WE SAVE FROM THAT SAINT MATTHEWS POLICE CHIEF BARRY. WILKERSON SHOWED OFF THE PHOTOS AT POLICE HEADQUARTERS. IT’S A VERY LARGE AMOUNT. WE RARELY SEE THAT AMOUNT, EVEN EVEN THE LARGER AGENCIES RARELY SEE THAT AMOUNT OF OF SEIZURES. BUT I’M SURE DEA AND THEM WITH THEIR LARGER SEIZURES DO GET THAT. BUT AS A SMALLER POLICE DEPARTMENT, THIS IS A VERY GOOD, UH, I GUESS, SEIZURE FOR OUR COMMUNITY. THREE MEN WERE ARRESTED AND FACED DRUG DEALING AND ORGANIZED CRIME CHARGES. TAIWAN POPE ANTOINE TURNER AND CORRIENTES THOMAS. I THINK WITHOUT QUESTION, THIS WAS A BIG OPERATION. UH, WE WILL CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE IF THIS TAKES US FURTHER. UH, WE DO ANTICIPATE ANOTHER ARREST, POSSIBLY MORE. AGAIN, WITH THESE CASES AND THESE GUYS CAN TELL YOU IT CAN IT CAN BLANK IT OUT, UH, VERY FAR REACHING TO OTHER AREAS OF THE COUNTRY AND EVERYTHING ELSE. WILKERSON THANKED LMPD AND JEFFERSONTOWN POLICE FOR HELPING IN THE INVESTIGATION. AND IT WASN’T JUST A COUPLE ITEMS EITHER. IT WAS EXTENSIVE HELP THROUGHOUT THIS INVESTIGATION, WHICH STARTED BACK IN APRIL AND MAY. THERE HAVE BEEN 180 DRUG OVERDOSE DEATHS IN LOUISVILLE SO FAR THIS YEAR, ACCORDING TO THE JEFFERSON COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE. WILKERSON SAYS SOME OF THE DRUGS APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN CUT WITH FENTANYL, ONE OF THE LEADING CAUSES OF DRUG OVERDOSES. I CAN’T APPLAUD THEIR EFFORTS ENOUGH. I MEAN, UH, AND IT JUST SHOWS THE THE CITIZENS OF THIS COMMUNITY THAT THERE IS THERE IS A LOT OF ILLEGAL NARCOTICS IN OUR COMMUNITY, AND WE NEED POLICE DEPARTMENTS TO GO OUT AND GET THOSE TO SAVE LIVES. POPE AND THOMAS WERE ARRESTED AT NORAH APARTMENTS OFF ZORN AVENUE ON THURSDAY. TURNER WAS ARRESTED AT MALLARD CROSSING APARTMENTS OFF BOWLING AVENUE. PEOPLE ARE SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON. THEY KNOW WHEN THERE’S DRUG ACTIVITY IN THEIR AREAS. UH, JUST ALERT US. THE CRIME TIPS ARE HUGE. THIS STARTED FROM A CRIME TIP. UH, AND LOOK WHERE IT TOOK US. NOW, ALL THREE WERE ARRAIGNED THIS MORNING. A JUDGE SET THEIR BONDS AT $25,000. POPE HAS A HISTORY OF DRUG DEALING ARRESTS. HE WAS ACTUALLY ON PROBATION
