Metro will close Red Line stations between Glenmont and Takoma from Saturday, June 1, through Saturday, August 31. The closure will be extended to Fort Totten from Saturday, June 1, through Saturday, June 29.Free shuttle buses will be available at Glenmont, Wheaton, Forest Glen, Silver Spring, Takoma, and Fort Totten and will operate during Metrorail hours. Montgomery County will once again host two free Independence Day fireworks displays, one on Thursday, July 4, and the other on Saturday, July 6. The Independence Day celebrations will take place at the following locations:
- Thursday, July 4, 7 p.m.: Germantown Glory at South Germantown Recreational Park, located at 18041 Central Park Circle in Germantown (Boyds)
- Saturday, July 6, 6 p.m.: Mid-County Sparkles at Albert Einstein High School, located at 11135 Newport Mill Road, Kensington
The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center in Derwood reopened for onsite adoptions on Tuesday, June 18. The shelter has been closed to the public since May 2 due to an outbreak of Canine Influenza Virus (CIV). Adoption fees are waived for all animals. The center remains closed for all but essential intakes and adoptions. See the press release for more information.
